Barleylands Maize Maze

Coming Soon to Barleylands................... The Amazing Maize Maze.

We are really excited as for the first time we are planting a maize maze at Barleylands.  As we never really do anything in small measures our maize maze will be huge;   four hectares (9.88 acres) in fact!

It is the place to have an amazing time!  It will be a fabulous addition to our award winning family attraction and is a great day out in itself.  Our maize maze will incorporate a game which draws inspiration from international sporting events, hence our design of the running rabbit.

Challenge yourself, your friends and your family to find your way around our Maize Maze without using the map.

Our amazing maize maze will have its own free dedicated parking area but if you are doing it as part of a combination ticket with the Farm Park, you can park in the Farm Park parking area and either walk to our maize maze or hitch a ride on our tractor and trailer.

We will start drilling the maize in April and will post photographs of the progress and let you know about opening times as it grows.

The Maize seed has been sown and is now about 2 inches high.

Maize Maze Updated:

With all this wet weather the maize is growing slower than normal so we will keep you all updated as to when the maize maze will be ready, fingers crossed we get a bit of sun very soon!

School Visits

Why not make your visit to Barleylands a bit different this year and take advantage of our maize maze.   As well as finding out what we will do with the crop when we harvest it in September, there will be a maize maze game with clues to find and a puzzle to solve which will include our sporting farm animal characters.

A maize maze is an excellent outdoor space for fun & learning and a great way to teach skills and subjects such as:

  • Map Reading
  • Problem Solving
  • Maths
  • Compass Reading
  • English
  • Decision Making
  • Geography
  • Teamwork
