FARM, MUSEUM & VISITORS CENTRE
The museum is housed in two new barns, it shows
a collection of exhibits and implements from a bygone age, depicting rural
life from the 18th Century to the 20th Century.
Barleylands has over 1,000 exhibits, which include a pair of Fowler
steam ploughing engines, vintage tractors, corn grinding mill, coopers
and cobbler's tools, agricultural implements, rural and domestic
bygones. The potato growing and wheat growing displays are particularly
interesting.
The portable engine and threshing machine can be seen working on
Bank Holidays and during special events such as the Essex
Country Show held annually in September.
Barleylands Farm Museum & Visitors Centre opens on 31st March
2004 and will be open everyday including Bank Holidays until 31st
October 2004.
Disabled access code is 1b (some of the craft studios are upstairs via a lift).
Handwashing facilities are available at three points round the farm. The
first aid point is in reception.
Meet and feed the animals on the farm including pigs, goats, sheep, ponies,
rabbits, chickens, chick hatchery, ducks and geese on the pond.
There is a picnic area beside the Adventure Playground, why not bring your
lunch along?
