Indoor Adventures

Whatever the weather, you can burn off energy at Barleylands. Join in with the fun at our indoor Ball Blasting Barn and our indoor soft play barn (open weekdays only and not during school holidays). There is also a world of farming to be explored in the Discovery Barn or you can get up close to the animals in our Animal Barn and Nocturnals and Exotics House.
Don’t miss the daily talks to learn more about some of our exotic residents at 11am and 3pm and Animal Petting at 10:30am and 2pm.

Soft Play Barn (Currently closed due to Tier Three)

At Barleylands we have two barns offering indoor play for children of all ages.

In the Indoor Play Barn you’ll find sky high slides, cargo nets, poles and chicanes. Will you brave our drop slide into the balls or race down our colourful astra slide?

Toddlers have their own designated play area with their own mini slide and pint-size frame so they can play safely.

We have a Tiptree Café in the Soft Play Barn which sells cream teas, toasties, hot drinks, kids’ lunches and more!

Ball Blasting Barn and undercover sandpit (Currently closed due to Tier Three)

Open with designated entrance & exit points, regular cleaning, sanitising stations and hand washing facilities on entry and exit.

Our Ball Blasting Barn can be found at the bottom of the farm. Full of action the whole family can enjoy trying to shoot each other with the foam balls, and little ones will love its Monsoon ball shower!

Found just next door is our giant undercover sandpit filled with 10 tonnes of sand, complete with buckets and spades.

Undercover picnic areas can also be found within the barn – so there’s plenty to do whatever the weather.

Discovery Barn (Currently closed due to Tier Three)

The Discovery Barn is the perfect place for young explorers to learn about the history of farming, discover more about the Essex countryside and how we used to live.

The importance of agriculture and farming to this part of Essex, here in Billericay, and beyond, is something we celebrate here at Barleylands. Our interactive displays encourage young children to discover more about where their food comes from.

We have an impressive selection of vintage machinery, tractors, carts and other farming equipment from through the ages.

Nocturnals and Exotics House (Currently closed due to Tier Three)

Our Nocturnals and Exotics House opened in 2020 and is home to fascinating exotic and nocturnal creatures, many of which  you can’t see anywhere else in Essex. Come and find out more about fruit bats, sugar guilders, skunk, tenrec, hedgehogs, snakes, tree frogs, chameleon, lizards, toads, turtles and more. Don’t misss the daily talks at 11am & 3pm for weird and wonderful facts and up close encounters.

Animal Barn

Whatever the season, whatever the weather, our Animal Barn gives children and families the chance to get close to farm animals – and even feed them – inside a warm, cosy barn.

Our lamb bottle feeding activity is on everyday and is a visitor favourite. Learn all about or adorable lambs, how to bottle feed them and get some amazing photos.

You can feed, stroke and get lots of selfies with our animals every day. They love attention from our visitors and our friendly team are always on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Depending on the season, other activities we run are Meet the Donkeys, Small and Fluffy Encounters, Feed the Pigs and more
